Personnel

The 388th had over 5000 crewman during the war (July 17, 1943 to May 20, 1945). Most of these crewmen served a specific role on a crew of 10 men.

The goal of each crewman was to survive long enough to be able to join the Lucky Bastard club. The unlucky ones either sacrifriced their lives for us or spent some horrible time in a POW camp.

Notable Personnel

Each crewman was notable for his bravery and sacrifice. However some of the men have a unique claim to fame

Chester Cox : Chester Cox was the original 388th bomb group deputy commander. He flew a total of xx combat missions mostly as group commander. Chester was known to play the piano at the officers club while some of the guys would stand around and sing songs.

Hank Henggeler : Hank Henggeler was the original 563rd squadron commander. He flew a total of 27 combat missions mostly as a group or deputy group commander.
